In Mormon’s abridgement of the Nephite records, he teaches us that the Nephites did not use the same money system as Jews in Jerusalem
(Alma 11:1-19).
Their system was an ingenious, efficient, and simple 1-2-4-7 system, in both weight and volume, for both gold and silver.
Compared to the United States currency of 1-5-10, the Nephite system is much more efficient. Egyptian influence may be seen in the Nephite money
system, as the Egyptians had a great interest in numbers, and were preoccupied with
numerical efficiency.
A system just like the Nephite money system (1-2-4-7) is still used
in the highland markets of Guatemala today.
Cultural
During a meeting at the base of a magnificent temple in Becan, Kate C. shared the following profound and timeless insight: “For almost 10 days we have been looking at some of the most majestic ruins in the world. I have been moved. I have been inspired.
But I have also been frustrated, because everything we have seen is empty and desolate.
All week I have been asking myself “why.” Why are these magnificent structures empty
and silent? Today, I think I finally figured it out.
"These ruins are ruins because they forgot Him."
If we make the same
mistake these ancient Mayan’s did, we may reap the
same results. I’m not sure any of us want that.”

“And he took their little children, one by one, and blessed them and prayed unto the Father for them.
And when he had done this he wept again . . . And no tongue can speak, neither can there be written by any man, neither can the hearts of men conceive so
great and marvelous things as we both saw and heard Jesus speak; and no one can conceive of the joy which filled our souls at the time we heard him pray for us unto the
Father . . .
So great was the joy of the multitude that they were overcome”
(3 Nephi 17:21-22, 17-18).
